The beach destination capsule

If you're one of the lucky ones escaping to a sunny beach soon, I imagine you're strolling to a seaside restaurant in a beautiful flowing dress.

Meanwhile I'll be freezing in hiking clothes (forget styling!) somewhere in the Norwegian fjords, lovingly dragged up another trail by my husband and our two teenage daughters. Enjoy the seafood—and wear the dress please!

Let's be honest—packing for a beach vacation has a way of convincing us we'll need every single dress we've owned since 2015. Spoiler alert: you'll probably wear the same two on repeat. So instead of hauling half your wardrobe across the world, let's pack the pieces you'll actually wear... and leave a little room in your suitcase for one vacation treasure find.

When travelling think about how you want to spend your time at destination and pack the capsule pieces for morning, lunch and dinner, for each day. I’ll go with the classics - hotel breakfast, beach time, a stroll in town and light lunch, more beach time, dinner at the hotel, cocktails in the beach bar.

This little capsule proves you don't need a suitcase the size of a small car. Mix and match these pieces, and you'll have at least 17 outfits—more than enough for a week of pretending you'll "just wear whatever."

My only advice? Pack a pop of color to bring out your personality (yes, beige on beige it's ok, but it's a bit boring) and don't save on accessories.

Bracelets, statement earrings, and a great silk scarf take up almost no space, but they can transform the very same outfit from "beach café" to "cocktails by the sea" in minutes. No one needs to know you've been wearing the same linen trousers all week. 😉
